During my usual perusal of New York Magazine’s The Cut, I stumbled upon Yigal Azrouël’s Resort 2014 Collection and was instantly enamored. Of course the Resort Collections of Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, and Versace topped my list as they do every year, but a newcomer (well at least for me) Yigel Azrouël’s collection paved its way to the top. Listed among the beloved resort collections of Acne and Prabal Gurun, Yigel Azrouël’s Resort 2014 Collection holds its ground among some of the top designers. Yigel Azrouël’s namesake label launched in 1998 and is renown for its feminine style draping that has an innate fluidness and elegance of its own. To contrast and balance the elegant femininity of his collections, Azrouël includes items such as experimental jersey T-shirts and light leather jackets to evoke a relaxed, nonchalant look. In 2003, Azrouël’s opened a boutique in the Meatpacking District and another shop in Watermill in 2008.
Among my favorite pieces in Azrouël’s collection are his sleek ensembles that consist solely of monochrome colors. I love the clean black and white effect as it gives off a modern, sophisticated, and professional vibe. Azrouël’s white tailored shorts lined with a wide black strip at the seam along with his three button white, silk blazer paired with a black bra is minimalistic, feminine, and sexy. The simple and seductive look is also captured in Azrouël’s black and white maxi dress that would be perfect for a quick transition from a wintry environment to a night out on a Caribbean island. Apart from the many chic black and white pieces of Azrouël’s Resort 2014 collection, his use of a bright, luxurious red edged with black in body fitting, jersey dresses and high-waisted skirt is bold and brilliant. The effect of a mix of azul and black in similar bodycon dresses is dark, mysterious, daring, and seductive. Yigel Azrouël’s Resort 2014 Collection is the embodiment of a modern, polished, alluring, and fearless woman.
